Albatross, MK's Chick

2007, oil paint on canvas, 20" x 16"

The chick with this Albatross adult is one that Marilou helped move when one of it's parents was discovered not returning to feed it. Of course, under the supervision of the biologist in charge of the Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge where this adult nests. It takes both parents feeding a young chick for it to grow appropriately in time to fledge with its peers. The adult pair to which this chick was moved was known to be sitting on an inviable egg. So, all ended well. The chick grew and flew when it should.
